Steamed Ribs with Fermented Black Beans

I used Lee Kum Kee garlic black beans instead of fermented black beans, taste equally nice.

Ingredients:

500g pork ribs or pork slices
20g minced ginger

2 tsp minced garlic

2 chillies (chopped)

2 tbsp fermented black beans (dou jiang)

1 stalk spring onion (chopped)

Marinade:

1 tbsp light soya sauce

a little sugar, salt

a little wine, pepper

1 tbsp potato starch

2-3 drops meat tenderizer

Seasoning:

2 tsp oyster sauce

1 tsp sugar

a little vinegar

a little sesame oil, wine

Method:

1) wash pork ribs. marinate pork ribs for about 30 mins.

2) heat oil and fry ginger, garlice, some chilli and fermented black beans till fragrant.

3) add seasonings and stir well. add to the pork ribs and mix well.

4) transfer into the steamer and steam over high heat for about 20 mins.

5) remove and scatter spring onion and chilli on top. Serve.

Hot & Spicy Chicken Dices with Cashew Nuts

Ingredients:
400g chicken breast
1/2 green capsicum
1/2 red capsicum
1/2 cup cashew nuts
1 onion
8 dried chilli
2 stalks spring onion
4 petals garlic
6 slices young ginger
2 tbsp cooking wine (hua diao wine)

Seasoning:
1 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp chilli sauce
2 tbsp tomato sauce
2 tbsp zhenjiang black vinegar

Marinade:
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tbsp tapioca flour
1 tbsp cooking wine (hua diao wine)

Method:
1) rinse chicken breast, remove to drain and cut into dices, add in marinade and set aside for 30 mins.
2) peel onion, cut into pieces, cut dried chilli into 2 sections, cut spring onion into small sections.
peel garlic and cut into slices. cut red and green capsicum into cubes
3) heat up oil in pot, fry chicken until well cooked, remove to drain.
4) heat up 2 tbsp of oil in pot, fry ginger, garlic and dried chilli over low heat, fry onion, seasonings and chicken breast.
5) dress with some cooking wine, and fry till fragrant.
6) add in capsicum and spring onion, fry over high heat.
7) add in cashew nuts.Serve

Steamed Chicken with mushroom & chinese sausage

Ingredients:
2 (300g) chicken drumsticks
2 chinese sausage
6 dried chinese mushrooms
2 stalks spring onion
6 petals garlic
6 slices young ginger

Marinade:
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp light soya sauce
2 tbsp dark soya sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp cooking oil (optional)
2 tbsp tapioca flour
pepper to taste

Method:
1) Rinse chicken drumsticks, remove to drain and cut into small pieces,
2) peel chinese sausage and cut into slices
3) soak dried chinese mushroom till soft, remove its pedicel and cut into half
4) cut spring onion into sections, peel garlic and smash it
5) blend chicken pieces, chinese sausage, dried chinese mushroom, spring onion, garlic, ginger with marinade, set aside for 1 hour
6) then spread it on evaporating dish and steam over high heat for 15 mins.
7) garnish with corainder leaves. Serve

Beef Bolognese Pasta

Ingredients:
1 pack Fusilli (any pasta of your choice)
2 carrots, diced
some oyster mushroom, sliced
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 Ib ground beef
3 cloves garlic, crushed
14oz tomatoes (i used one can of mashed tomatoes)
few dashes of worcesterschire sauce
some dried oregano
some red chilli powder
black pepper to taste
salt to taste

Method:
1) Heat pan with some olive oil, saute the onions and carrots until they are partially tender.
2) add in meat, mushrooms, garlic & worcesterschire sauce, then fry till beef is slightly brown followed by the tomatoes.
3) add the rest of the ingredients & allow gravy to simmer on low heat.
4) while gravy is simmering, start boiling water & cook the pasta according to instructions on the package.
5) when pasta is cooked, add in the sauce and serve.

Yay, Summer is here. Sunshine, sunshine & more sunshine.

Myanmar New Year 2009

Time flies ! We are celebrating Myanmar New Year again.
seems not too long ago that they are celebrating it only.
This time is slightly different from the previous 2 years, no stage performance & not indoor.
They held an outdoor event at a park and the park is only 10mins train ride from my place.(Heng!) some people got to travel more than an hour to reach the place.
We had barbercue and some stalls selling Myanmar food and the event end with Lucky Draw.
as usual no Luck for the draw for me.
Forgotten to bring my camera along, so did not have much photos to post up.

Been quite a while since my last update.
Have been rather busy looking after my 2 kids. Time are fully utilised.
Everyday is not enough time for me ( to catch up with the hongkong series)
Wake up, make breakfast, change diapers, feed baby, cook Jaivyn's meal, feed Jaivyn, bathing them, cook dinner, feed Jaivyn again, and after feeding Jaivyn will be almost 8pm and Soe will be back.
Dinner will be around 8.45pm, after that wash up and almost time to bed.
See, one whole day is gone just like tat.
not much spare time for me, that explain why I can't update my blog so often.
Anyway, here is the update pics of my boy Hayden.
He's now 2.5 mths old, can't wait for him to grow faster.

The day before Hayden was born.
went for an Eve Buffet dinner at Shang ri la's restuarant with bunch of Hubby's friends.
lots of variety there and its not expensive, 13.80 euros per pax.
eating to my heart's contents before going for delivery (unexpected due)

Hey, I'm back with another wedding party I attended last Sat.
This time, the whole ceremony and dinner was held in a Hall.
We weren't there in the afternoon to witness the ceremony, just in time for the dinner, hehe....
Hall was kind of small, cramp and messy, so we did not stay too long and never take too much pics too.

Maung Chit's wedding

Maung Chit much anticipated Big day is finally here and we were there to witness the ceremony and to enjoy the Buffet lunch.
Lunch was Mongolischer Grill and food was good.
Keeping in mind that I had gained 7kg during my Spore trip, this time I really restrain from eating too much.
Though it was indoor, but was kind of chilling in there, probably they never switched on the heater. My lil Jaivyn was sleeping the whole afternoon until almost the end of the party.

Here comes the bride and bridegroom marching down the aisle. Just in case u were wondering who is Maung Chit, he is the bridegroom.

The couple seated at the front stage waiting for the ceremony to be started. They will be exchanging rings and parents will give their speech.

Jaivyn just woke up and was playing with the balloons soon after that.

Sunday was the official opening ceremony for Myanmar Temple in Frankfurt.
Monks from England and other parts of Europe were invited to Germany for the ceremony.
The event started at 9am, but we had to be there before 9am cos hubby was in charge of taking video cam for the event.
Woke up early in the morning at 6.30am to prepare for the whole day journey.

Next, we proceed to the theatre to watch Myanmar performance.

Jaivyn's 1st swim

Morning Sickness

I am feeling so sick !
I am suffering from a very bad morning sickness.
feeling so nausea and so weak the whole day.
Hardly move my body except to prepare Jaivyn's food and to feed him.
Other than tat, I am just lying on the couch or bed most of the time.
can hardly put anything into my mouth, OMG ! I feel so weak.
I really pray hard for this trimester to end soon.

My poor lil Jaivyn was sick too.
He was down with fever, flu and cough.
The blocked nose is disturbing his sleep, waking him up in the middle of the night for few times.
That is disturbing me too.

My husband was sick too.
But not too serious, just coughing only.
So for these period, he is the one doing all house chores and cooking.

Guess wat ? I'll be expecting my number 2 next year.
Tat's right... I'm pregnant again.
Now already in my 7 weeks.
All came as an accident, never actually plan for it so soon.
Anyway, still happy and looking forward to this baby, wonder whether its a boy or girl?

Currently, I'm having a hard time during the 1st trimester of pregnancy, feeling so nausea, fatigue and no appetite.
Can't wait for the 1st trimester to end.
And there is this delivery pain to top up the fear.
Still can r'ber the hell-like contraction pain.
Well, my baby will make up everything.

It's so fast ! My little darling is already 10 mths old.
In another 2 months times, he will be celebrating his 1st year birthday.

2nd Trip to Stuttgart

Jaivyn 's passport was ready for collection on Thursday, so we made a 2nd trip to Stuttgart.
We took a 8.20am train and reach there at around 10am.
After collection of the passport, we went downtown for lunch, shopping, sight-seeing and of course photo shooting too.
Lunch was back to the same resturant we had during our first trip.
Food were delicious and price reasonable, tat's why we decide to go back to the same restuarant.
Hubby had buffet which cost only Euro 7.80 and me had just one serving costing Euro 4.50.
I won't mind going back to the same restaurant again if there is a 3rd trip there.
After lunch, we went shopping and then some photo taking.
Stuttgart look slightly different during Spring.
Flowers blooming everywhere. Looking so colourful and beautiful.
Weather was nice too. Cool with sunshine.
Took a 18.05 train back to Frankfurt.
Reach home at around 8.30pm with a tiring, weak and sick body.

Ceremony in Temple

We went to the Burmese Temple in Offenbach on Sunday.
We were there to witness the son of husband's buddy in becoming a monk.
He will be staying in the temple for a week, to learn more on Buddhism.
It's a grand event for Myanmar. One will have to be a monk for twice in a lifetime. Once during kid and one when turns to adult.
Guess you can see from the pic who is the one going for the monkhood.

Myanmar New Year 08

Happy New Year to all Myanmese !
13th April was the New Year for Myanmar. (more commonly known as Water Festival)
In Germany is unlike in Myanmar or Thailand where they play with water so vigorously.
They still play with water, but in a more orderly manner.
Festival was held on Saturday, eve of New Year.
There were concerts and were some food stalls selling Myanmar cuisine.
Whole event lasted till 9.oopm, closing with Lucky Draw.
Guess we were just not lucky enough to win a gift.

R'ber this girl, Jasmine. Jaivyn was so dear to her. She was carrying Jaivyn the whole day, giving me a good opportunity for Pause.

Offer to Monk

Monks from Berlin were invited to our appartment over the weekend and we offered lunch to them.
After lunch, we had some prayers and chanting.
Friends were invited too for lunch. We made Burmese noodles called "Mon Hin Nga" for lunch.
Tasted yummy.
After prayers and chanting, one of the monk offer to tell my fortune.
He told me that I will be expecting some properties in the mid of April.
Wonder wat will tat be? Maybe its the Spore dividends giving out in mid April or maybe I might be expecting another baby ? Hehe....

I havent been blogging for a long time. Been extremely busy with the new appartment.
Let's take a look at how Jaivyn has progress.
He's now 8 months old. Time flies !

He starts to put everything into his mouth.
Cos he's teething now and his two lower front tooth has grown.

He is also learning to stand up and walk a few steps on his own with a little support.

Three little guests

I had three little guests visiting last Tuesday and Thursday.
They came specially to play with baby Jaivyn.
Their father left them with me the whole day.
I was extremely busy on these two days, baking and cooking for them.
The only girl Jasmine, she was so fond of Jaivyn that she didn't want to go back.
She was carrying Jaivyn the whole day, makes me wonder, doesn't she feel tired?

A white Christmas early in the morning. Snows falling and it was cold today, only -5 degress celcius.

X'mas Shopping

Shopping during X'mas season is really congested in Germany.
Everywhere is packed with people.
We went to the Weihnachts Markt (Christmas Market) here where is so congested that we can hardly make our way. This Markt is something like our chinatown street during chinese new year.
so can you can imagine how we struggle our way thru with our baby stroller.

Hubby bought an Olympus camera, just in time for some X'mas picture.
We bought the blue one, like the one in the pic.
with 8 megapixels, can actually capture my pimples marks(omg)

manage to get X'mas present for hubby and Jaivyn.
They are now lying at my so called ''Christmas tree"in my hall, waiting to be opened on Christmas Day. Can't wait to see wat hubby got for me.

Had my first attempt on home made Pancake.

Not too bad, taste exactly like those sold in bakery shop.

Attempted twice during last weekend. The first one wasn't sweet enough according to hubby.

2nd attempt on Pancake, added additional spoonful of sugar and taste just right.

Anyone interested in the recipe can just tag me.

Next weekend will try to bake Cupcakes.

Trip to Stuttgart

Snow came early this year. Its only mid November and snows already start to fall.

Temperature ranging fm -2 to 8 degree, making me freeze when outside.

went to the Singapore mission in Stuttgart on Tuesday to submit the citizenship application for Jaivyn.

Its about 2 hours train ride from Frankfurt to Stuttgart.

We took a 8.20am train and reach there around 11am. At Stuttgart, still need to transfer a local train to another city called Waiblingen. The Singapore mission is situated at Waiblingen.

Nothing fascination about Stuttgart, just like any other Europe city to me.

Weather slightly colder than in Frankfurt cos its nearer to the Switzerland side.

After submitting the application, we went for a buffet lunch at a Chinese Restuarant.

Enjoy the food there cos food taste delicious, lots of variety and not expensive.

Then went downtown for some photo-taking and shopping. Shopping centre there are the same as in Frankfurt.

Took train back at 6.05pm and reach Frankfurt at 7.40pm.

That's the itenary for my one day trip in Stuttgart.

wonder where is lil Jaivyn? He's sleeping in the stroller behind Soe. Sleeping the whole day, so no pic from him for this trip. maybe next time.

A very peaceful one. They lighted candles and place it on the floor to form words "Free Burma"
Demo lasted until 9pm. It was very cold on that night.
Hubby was there the whole day, while me and Jaivyn went shopping and then meet up with him after that.
Bought some baby's winter clothings and a pair of sneakers for myself.

After 39 weeks of waiting, finally little Jaivyn was born.

Since this was the first time I giving birth, going for natural birth and with nothing, never did I expect the contraction pain to be soooooo painful. Although friends and relative did mention that natural birth is painful, but u wont know how the pain is like until u experience it. Contraction pain is soooo painful that u cant even realise tat they actually cut the below part in order to deliver out the baby. So now, can u imagine the pain.

But all is worth it when u saw your little one out. All relieved and happy tat he is healthy and doing fine. In the past, I always think that new born baby look alike. But now to me, my son is the cutest baby in my eyes.

3rd Anniversary

We celebrated our 3rd Wedding Anniversary yesterday.
How times flies... we were already married for 3 years.
went to a Thai Imbiss for dinner.. to me all asia food in Germany seems to be cooked in the same style cos all taste just like chinese food.
Me had chicken and Hubby had duck.

Pregnancy Agony

Morning Sickness, Fatigue, Leg Cramp, Heavy Stomach, Imsonia etc...
2 days ago, I am down with severe pain in my left thigh.. so pain until I can't walk. Imagine I stay on the 5th floor and everyday I have to climb the stairs.
So yesterday had to miss the class cos so afraid that I cant manage the stairs.
Went to see my gynae yesterday and she gave me Magnesium for the pain.
slightly a bit better today, but the pain is still there.
Now I really look forward to my 40th week, then I'll be spared from all these agony.
I am in my 34th week now, 6 more weeks to go for my little Jaivyn.

Goethe & Gym

Goethe haus - teacher arranged for a class outing on this day to Goethe Haus. It's all about this popular German writer name "Goethe". The house is actually Goethe's original house in the year 1800, showing all the rooms and ktichen and paintings. It's a rather big house with 3 storeys with all antiques inside. Its like a museum for Geothe, & I have no interest in history at all & sorry to say that its very boring there .. haha

Hubby and I went for the pre-natal course arranged by the hospital. spent 5 hours there.
Had 1 hour lesson on gymnastics, 1 hour on video watching on how other woman give birth during labour and the rest is the midwife talking about labour, baby & etc which I dun really understand cos she speaks all only in german. Anyway all these info I can get it from the net too, so no prob. but at least I gain from learning how to do exercise during pregnancy which I can practice it at home too.

Just for update - I am now in my 33 weeks, 7 more weeks and my little one will be joining me in my family. Can't wait for tat day for my dear Jaivyn.

Celebration & Lesson

Shall blog about wat I did for the past week.

Sunday (14.4.2007)
Last Sunday was the Burmese New Year and we went for the celebration.
Nothing much there, just concert and some local burmese foods sold by the Burmese. Dun really know how to appreciate Burmese food, haha.. but anyway ate a lot on tat day cos need to munch while watching concert. Been eating non stop till end, can really make me put on weight.

Monday (15.4.2007)
German class begins today... need to wake up at 6.30am and be there at 8am. School is just walking distance from my house, lucky me. Class is rather small with only 10 to 14 students & of course all from different countries. There are from Brazil, Afghanistan, Thailand, Morrocco, Turkey, Portugal, Croatian, Africa, Greece and etc. Most can speak English, so no prob for me to communicate with them, but of course will slow down my German learning.
Lesson last for 4 hours which can be quite boring when it comes to 3rd & 4th hours. Sometimes really feel so sleepy.

One interesting thing... my teacher and classmates actually suggested tat I bring my bb along to the class after delivery. The whole course will end in August and I be delivering in Jul. It will be a pity if I dun complete in August, then I will have to retake again at my own expense. Might be considering bringing bb along if everything is well and bb is behaving.

2 more mths to go and my little one will be here.

Deutsch Kurs

I will be going back to school learning German language this coming Monday.
School is just walking distance from my house.
Lesson starts at 8am to 12pm, 5 days week, meaning no late wake up anymore, Sianzz......
Wonder how will the class be like, hopefully it'll be fun.

Think abt it, its kind of strange to go school with a big stomach, hahahaha.

Its the beginning of Spring now. Very nice and cool weather.
Temperature ranging 12 to 20 degress in the day & 0 to 4 in the night.
Beautiful flowers blooming everywhere.

Went to view a few hospitals for the delivery of my baby, finally decided on this one.

Markus Krankenhaus.

Yeah, that wil be the place where I'll be delivering my little one.

Register for a place there yesterday.
Hospital rather new with friendly and warm nurses there.
Delivery deparment there is rather small with several rooms but only one patient lodging room per patient.
Meaning, when the time comes, I will be the only patient in the one-bedded room.
should'nt be a prob cos the room looks cosy and nicely renovated.

A pre-delivery course is also arranged for me and my hubby to attend. A 5 hours course for the preparation for delivery , for handling baby and some gymnastics course for me. All these are free for me, covered by insurance, but hubby got to pay a nominal amt of S$70 which is quite reasonable.
We'll be starting the course on 19 May, gonna be rather fun.

After this 5 hrs course, I'll be attending another 1 1/2 hrs course every Wed alone.
With all these courses, we should be well prepared to welcome the arrival of our little one to this world.

On top of tat, a midwife will be arranged to come to my place every week after baby delivery. She will assist me and guide me in all the basic things in taking care of bb. Guess wat, this is also free.

Well, its not a bad idea to give birth to baby in Germany, all provided thoughtfully and most importantly, its FOC... hehe, not forgetting the mthly mother & child allowance.

Helau in Germany

Its been a while since I last blog.

Shall blog about Helau in Germany.

I was at the Helau parade last Sunday. It was a sunny afternoon, therefore not so cold (11 degree)

Helau is something like our Chingay in Singapore
except that they would throw candies, toys and flowers at the crowd (to me, this is the interesting part compared to ur Chingay)

Some of the crowds will dress up as characters along the street.
As the parade goes on, the crowds will scream and shout "HELAU" and will also try to snatch as much candies as they can.
They even bring bags along to hold those candies. Can you imagine pple will be able to snatch two bagful of candies home.

Of course I manage to snatch some candies too, but not too much cos no point holding onto the candies while I cant eat at all (bcos of pregnancy), so I pass some to my hubby's colleagues.

Next year, will bring my baby along and of course bags to fill up the candies.

Back to Germany

was back to hometown for the past two weeks due to granddad passed away.
Been a very sad occasion.
so much happening at home but all's been well now.
Flew back to home in Germany last night... Happy and touched to have my aunties,uncles,cousins,brother to see me off at the airport ... really miss them
somehow, misses family and friends and food (veg bee hoon) and everything in Singapore so much... even more than the first time I flew here...
very emotional this time, probably due to pregnancy?

Landed at 5.30am(Germany time) this morning. sooooo tired after the long flight.
But happy to see my hubby again.

See you guys in Spore next year, and always keep me update of any latest news.

A False Alarm

Collected my blood test results few days ago.
It shows :
German Measle - Positive
German Measle IGM - Negative
Immunity - Yes

Worried for few days cos there's a positive in one of the result.
went online to check wat is German measle.
Its a disastrous to contract this disease during pregnancy cos can affect the unborn baby which most likely to cause baby's defects.

Today had an appt with Gynae. Ask her to explain on the results shown.
To my relieve, the results is read as :

German Measle in the past : Positive
German Measle present : Negative
Immunity : Yes

which means I am immune to this disease and are tested negative now.
Its such a relieve to me and my hubby now.
Everything is fine and baby growing very well.
went for ultrasound and saw my baby. . .
Gender still unknown. haha....

X'mas Day

Nothing much today... just be leaving at around 4pm to friend's house for a visit.
Manage to catch ''Babes two'' on TV in the morning ... rather nice.
Still holidays in Germany, so all shops are closed until Wednesday... so shiok !

Skies turn dark very early... only 4 plus in the afternoon.

X'mas eve - Dinner at Restaurant

Went dinner with hubby's friends at a Chinese Restaurant.
Enjoy the food there cos taste exactly like Spore Chinese Food except for the "Bai Zhan Ji"which taste a bit wierd. Forgotten to take pics of the foods.. but anyway, nothing special.

After dinner, hubby's friend commented that I put on weight..
Sian... being commented as being fat.
Of course will put on weight mah.. cos pregnant.
By the way, the pic shown is me being 13 weeks pregnant.
Do u think I put on weight?
